The Train Gates at Totton – 15-10-2015

The lights were on
The gates were down
Nobody was waiting
Then, the train went through
The gates went up
The lights went out

I walked towards the gap

Then the lights came on
The gates went down
(Nobody had gone through)
But, this time
Two cars
And a weary traveller
Were its victims

They waited
I crossed the bridge
And then the train went through

It could have been the same train
As if on a toy-train set
But, I think, upon reflection, that it probably wasn’t

The gates went up
The lights went out
The two cars went through.

I never looked back

I think that I saw one of those traintextuals this morning. On the 05:55 to Waterloo. He or she (lots and lots of hair) was pressing buttons like it was nobody’s business. Which, of course, it was. I wonder if they were a writer. Or a wronger.

Monday Morning Platform Poem #2

Monday Morning Platform Poem #2

Later today
After catching a mouse
(Not a crab)
So, shorter time
To write my rhyme
The train is due quite soon
I will have to be brief
For time is a thief
And I have little with which to dwell upon.

The sky, still grey,
Heralds a day
Full of derring-do;
Of what is to come
I am dumb
The future is orangey-blue.
So with left but a second
This is not what I reckoned
“Hasty, lacks content!”
You might say.
But, what is, has to be
As I said near the start
The train’s coming for me
It is here now
So, alas, I depart.

Bon Voyage!

Have I just discovered a way to make myself even funnier (Hello, is there anybody out there?)

Me: Am I Funny Yet? You: A bit further.

Me: Am I Funny Yet?
You: A bit further.

Me: I was hoping you’d be on the train.

You: Out of here? Or on my way back to you?

Me: Yes, something along those lines.

You: That’s not even remotely funny.

Me: People say that ‘the further away you are; the funnier you become.’

You: Me?

Me: Yes, ‘Me.’

You: You’re crazy!

Me: It has been mentioned that that may be a probability of being a possibility.

You: Stay there, I’m just going to make you a lot funnier.

Me: How?

You (fainter): Pardon? You’ll have to speak up a bit.

Me: I said ‘How?’

You (shouting from a distance) What?

Me: HOW?

You (really far away): It’s working.

View From A Bridge (Near Our House)

Spot the pigeon.

Spot the pigeon.

From the bridge I can see the roof of our house
And probably from the roof of our house you can see the bridge
but I will take that as a given.

From the bridge
On I go
But, the day ahead I do not yet know
The start is with me
But, as for the rest
I shall wait to see the show.

Waiting for the Train Home

It was just like this

It was just like this

The times they are a-changing
And the platforms, too
An announcement is made
And heard
And the herd for that journey
Up sticks and move from 4a to 3
For the 18:10 that is already nine minutes late
People with suitcases and bags, children, bikes and more
Climb the steps to try and reach the promised land
Whilst I almost miss my trusty steed
Because of 18:19 poem-writing
That is over-running due to task-in-hand
And will have to be finished-
“All A-board!”

First in Class

This splat form
please fill it out
As there is a train waiting
And you can’t delay
A train of thought;
Or something upon those lines.

If there is a point to all this
Then I do not know it;
It all points to some destination
But, as it may be a departure from my norm
I shall just see how it all pans out.

It may be a miscarriage of poetic justice;
Or just a jumble of words
That wag on randomly;
Or, it may be just the ticket;
From which a journey
Can depart-you to France
(If you know what I mean)
Or somewhere else.

If you choose to remain stationary
Then please can you fill out
This splat form – as there is another train of thought due along
Any time-table soon.

At the end of the end of a busy day

Not the train I went on - worse luck. G:)

Not the train I went on – worse luck. G:)

Having travelled the length and the breadth

(sometines in the shallow end

sometimes way out of my depth)

Of the land

By foot, train, lift and van;

I’m now back at home with my darling Jane

And I’m a happy, tired man.

It’s true that there’s no gain without pain

And I have to do it tomorrow all over again

(apart from the train – that can wait until Friday)

thank you for journeying along as I weathered the seas (none of those)

And I hereby declare a last call for: “Fares, please!”

Train Times (For Out Of Here!)

Not for my journey

Not for my journey

I was considering train times
As a possible source of rhymes
But, I think I missed the boat on that one, alas

I thought I’d pen a few lines in my compartment
Upon my carriage and deportment
But, I am a bit of a slob when it comes to class

I was almost derailed by the thought of a buffet trolley
But, missed the points of going the whole nine railway yards; what a wally.

I am in training.

What for?
I know not

Where to?
That would be my destination.

Just the ticket!

All aboard!
