My dog loves Larkin

My dog loves Larkin:

which is not that unusual;

if you consider that some dogs like music,

especially Bach;

but, poetry?

Why not?

Has a dog not got ears to hear;

a mind to think;

eyes to read the words—

hold on…

sorry, my dog loves Barkin’ –

easy mistake to make.

Larkinesque Rainfall

image

Rainfall (written soon after reading some Philip Larkin; does it show?)

Caught, not unprepared,
I set forth in rainfall;
A journey made as those before,
In hopes of an incident
Not occurring.

Walking through the downwards shift
I dwell upon the Winter past
When this was the norm;
Oh, I long, how long must this Summer last?
