‘January is the longest month’

‘January is the longest month’

said somebody.

It wasn’t me.

I know that,

‘May is the shortest month’,

‘April the cruelest!’

And all the others

must have their own talents.

But, to keep things in balance,

I shall stir controversy,

by proposing, that,

‘June is the kindest’,

or so it seems to me.

“Hello, June!”

Hello, June;

and not a moment too soon,

for May was becoming passé.

Be that as it may…

Be that as it may…

there are thirty days in April,

the same in June,

neither has a middle day.

But, May, having thirty-one,

What does all the above

to do with the price of bananas?

Not a lot really;

but, as I often say,

If I stop talking,

I start thinking…

and then where would I be?

30 days hath… June!

To put it all down in black and white,

Cornwall County’s colours,

(and underline, in red ink)

the memory of a secret, hidden place,

where the Mermaid of Zennor

kept home

in underwater tide pools

candlelit beneath the gilded sky;

belonging, regaining strength

whilst antique Summer music

reclaimed the seeds of growth,

letting go cold companionships,

whilst awakening to the rose-tinted favourite scent

of a sustainable iridescent belonging.

“The Moon In June”

“The Moon In June”

The Moon in June

is just like the Moon

in any other month,

apart from the rhyme,

of course.

The Moon In June

is just like the Hay in May,

or the Starch in March,

for example.

The Moon In June

is currently appearing in a

showing of Noël Coward’s ‘Present Laughter’

at the Aldwych Theatre

The Moon In June

will be back

all too soon.

June, July, Jenga!

A waitress in Widnes had a weakness for witnesses.
During Jury Duty, Judy (her name) judiciously jostled Justin (his name).
Justice was done.
Judy was jailed; Justin just jumped bail jauntily.

Judy was duly declared non compos Mentis (she never meant to buy compost) and released…
An album of jumping jive gaolbird songs;
Whilst Justin just gave in to his journalistic tendencies
And wrote juvenilia
Even though he was jeopardising,
Unjustly, Jelly, Jam and Jenga –
His three children.

June (2015)

We spend a whole month caressing and nurturing May
And then, one day, all too soon
It’s June!
And we have to start from scratch
To match
Our efforts of last month
To this.
What is the world like?

NB Please try not to answer my rhetorical questions, it confuses me – thank you.
