New Forest Poetry 10-10-2015

The tree that fell
It wasn’t well
It lost its grip
Began to slip
And…
Sad to tell
It lay on the ground murmuring –
A sad sight
Quite profound;
Whilst all around
Were none to see
The tree
Fall
Without a sound.

Forestal – 100 Word Story #1

Forestal of New Forest 08-08-2015

From the Forestal of New Forest 08-08-2015

Here I stand

The Forestal

The Guardian of this Forest;

The New Forest

And here I have stood for nearly a thousand years; seeing men, women, kings and queens, come and go. I was strong; my Forest has survived and flourished.

Until recently.

The Trees know that their days are numbered; some still sentient enough to be counting down that number.

I have seen much and weathered many storms; but, I am no fool – I know that I cannot rule when there is nothing left to rule for.

It seems that the end is nigh.

Just Breathing and Walking (and breathing and walking some more) in the New Forest

New Forest, Hampshire, UK

Breathe
Breathe in the air
Don’t be afraid to keep breathing
(As if you could stop!)
Let out the stresses
And the bad vibes
The worries and cares
Let them go
Into the air
Let.
Them.
Go.

Walk
Walk the stiffness out of your limbs
Straighten that back
And breathe deeply of the air
Keep breathing that air
Walk through the air
Of the forest
Of the free
And be.

PS If you can hear a little of Pink Floyd’s ‘Breathe’ in there – you are not mistaken – all part of my whole self and themes / ideas come out in my work. A process it is. G:)

In the woods 2 – The Sequel (04-07-2015)

Fallen Tree in the New Forest

A tree fell in the woods
And I didn’t hear a thing;
I wasn’t there to hear it
That’s if it indeed it made any noise…
…at all.

Did it cry out in anguish
Upon its altered state?
Did it have forebodings
That came, but far too late?
Does it lay here now
Sentient and hurt?
Or is it just decaying
Slowly akin the dirt
Of a mess of bark and limbs and trunk, and…
Has its life-sap dried;
All its nature drunk?

A tree fell in the woods
You can hear the echoes still…

Somewhere, a screen-door slams
A car horn is punched in irritation;
A baby cries for milk;
and the city mill keeps on turning;

But, I am here
Where a twig cracks underfoot
Birds are heard
And space there is to think the word.

I shuffle through leaves
And breathe the air
Releasing the concerns
Renewing the care

One soul in a forest
Alone for a while
In this underpopulated wood
In this overpopulated world.
