When sleep is what is needed…

image

When sleep is what is needed
And sleep it just won’t come
I lay awake for hours
And wish my mind was numb
But, thoughts keep digging at me
Ideas wild and clear
Begging my attention
It’s insomnia, I fear.
The hours tick by like weeks
The minutes seem to drag
I have to be up for work by five
And in the day I’ll flag
And feel like a nap by two
When I should be driving home
I’ll fight the urge, resist it,
No need, when driving, to roam.
I wish I had a switch
On a timer
To give me the sleep
That I am so desperately needing
But, I haven’t and so just lay here
Writing this poem
That you
Are
‘Now’
Hopefully

Visiting the Land of Nodd (I wish I was)

image

The distant sound of traffic on the A35 accompanies me as I seek the land of Nodd; and, though I seek in vain, I know that I am not alone in this quest. Many souls lay awake and contemplate the world passing by outside of their little peace of haven.
A chill has risen that is so at odds with the heat of the daylight hours that it seems unreal; just a memoir of a cool spring that was, or an autumn that is yet to arrive.
Soon, I shall strive to regain the dream state that is eluding me. Soon, I hope, my date with far off combustion engines will be over and we can bid each other “G’night!” before we have to greet each other with the “Mornin'” that signals another battle lost, another restless, restive night that brought little in the way of rest.

Why am I awake at 02:25 in the ay-em when I should be fast asleep and visiting nice places in my dreams? Why?

Too tired to write tripe;
Should be sleeping soft and sweet;
In some near raining.
