I think if written well, a haiku can be very moving, maybe beautiful, etc. But what is it that people love so much about them? I mean they have societies of people. What is the draw? My honest idea is that it is easy to write because it is so short. I know that might anger a lot of writers but I have never known the truth!

A proper haiku is very rarely written – the 5,7,5 syllable format used to comic effect is a Senryu.
Why do so very few use the Senryu?
A proper Haiku with an attached amount of Prose is termed a Haibun
Then we get the Tanka.
It’s all just words in different order put.
I tend to use them as filler. Or I play with the structure. Or I extend them into things like the Diku.
Have a great day

Thanks for the explanation
Short writing has to be concise – you can’t waste any syllables. Easily read?
The best Haiku are supposed to be poignant and moving.
