“A magpie sat at the top of a tree”

“A magpie sat at the top of a tree”

A magpie sat at the top of a tree,

two others flew down and then there were three;

two flew off at the sound of a gun

three minus two, that makes one.

A magpie sat at the top of the tree,

he flew off,

and then there were none.

  1. Nice and cohesive little poem!
    Magpies are one of my few superstitions which I try nto to take seriusly but do despite myself. My question the other day wasif you se only one magpie – which is supposedly unlucky, and then mayb five or ten minutes later you see another one. Does that mean two for joy or is it bad luck twice?!! I try not to take it seriuosly, as I said, but am always overjoyed to see two or more together.
