The Tale of My Cow and a Five-Bar Gate – a song of sorts.

A five-bar gate

A five-bar gate

I tied my cow to a five-bar gate

Then I went into town

And I came back late

And my cow was gone

And so was the gate

The five-bar gate;

And so were all the cows

In the farmer’s field

The field of the farmer who owned the five-bar gate.

The cows roamed far

And the cows roamed wide

And the farmer swore

He’d have my hide

For losing all the cows

From the farmer’s field

And his five-bar gate as well

And I never ever saw

My cow again

Or the five-bar gate

And for the farmer’s revenge

I didn’t have long to wait

And now my hide is hanging on his wall,

My hide is hanging on his wall.
