Red-Shirt Thinking

Here’s a bit of my blue-sky thinking for you.
“He’s the man in the red shirt!” I said, although he wasn’t ‘actually’ wearing a red shirt.
What I meant, was, ‘he’ was the sacrificial anode in the hot water tank – and, what that means is only clear to plumber-types (of which I am one).
However, the red-shirt analogy relates to the Star Trek series where the landing party always consists of a few ensigns destined not to rise in the ranks due to imminent fatal wounds.
So, some people are actually wearing red-shirts and their names will be writ small in history.
