Ode to a Bark Ode
(Or more than likely: Ode to a BarCode)
Ode Ear? What do you hear?
A phrase of misconstrueance drawing near?
Ode Ear, I must make it clear
That your unfortunate ramblings
Do often appear
Whilst I am involved in some other activity
Not ‘inactivity’ when my diary is freer.
That being said
You enter my head
And refuse to budge.
It’s not that you are a drudge;
But, from my mind’s sludge you will feed
And cause me to divert my scant resources
To cater to your need.
So, now that you have my attention
I shall create your work
Having built up such tension
I shall no longer shirk
And set out upon my road
To create the Ode to a Bark Ode
Oh, you’re upon the write lines
That I cannot read
Indeed, bark ode
You have dogged me for a while
Yet, I hesitate momentarily
Before I smile warily
And consider the pun of your name
If it is all the same to you
I have to interview candidates
For other Odal poems to be inmates
Inside my skull
So, please do not think me wrong
If I ask you to move along
For the time it flies and flees
Never to return
Shall I ever learn
What every line says
And through thick and thin
With spaces within
(I write, with a grin)
The scandal of your hidden message
Or the weft of your warp
As you woof.
