A sad little tale from upon the ocean

We met after the captain of our luxury cruise liner, the SS Fantaglio, had carried out the obligatory Tuesday morning fire drill and had accidentally abandoned ship, the passengers were herded into the lifeboats “Women and children first!” Luckily they had a good passenger to lifeboat ratio. And as we were seated in our adjacent craft just pottering aimlessly in the midst of the Mediterranean Sea, the lifeboats huddling together for the safety of numbers, our eyes met across the bulwarks and we were in love. That was just the beginning – because it was the start – and we got on like distressed castaways are wont to do. We spent many happy hours together, inseparable; but, as so often happens, we gradually drifted apart.
