A Little Wordplay is a Good Thing – discus.

We could be foolish in Dawlish
Intoxicated in Uttoxeter
And distinctly vague as to when we visited The Hague
But, can you smell Burnley?
I think I overcooked the books
Had too many irons in the fire
Went out in a blaze of glory
Same old story
The heat is on
The lights are lit
But, nobody’s home
And all rhododendrons lead to Rome
Which is at it should be
Which is to say…
Nothing
In a long-winded way
And Burnley wasn’t built in a day
Even though it looks as if it was.

No insult intended…
To Rome

  1. In my time, I took the gloss off of Gloucester, was the heretic of Hereford, and now am most definitely not in Nottingham.

    Poor Burnley…

  2. Wonderful poem. Made me smile and read it again.
